2A’s Range

With the Savage System wet snail bullet trap that eliminates airborne lead exposure, 2A Shooting Center is a clean environment with a first class ventilation system that utilizes a climate controlled, positive pressure air wall drawing gun powder, lead and other airborne particulates away from you insure a comfortable shooting climate in all seasons. 2A is great for shooters of all ages and skill levels. 16 multi-use shooting lanes, 25 yards in length allow for a wide range of shooting or qualification needs. Pistol and rifle shooters are welcome.

Savage Wet Snail System

Savage Range Systems, Inc. (SRS) a subsidiary of Savage Sports Corporation, in 1991 introduced the Snail® bullet trap system. This innovation, receiving its name from the circular deceleration chamber, revolutionized shooting range design and has been credited with protecting shooters, range employees, and the environment worldwide.

Low angle ramps guide bullets into the throat and the deceleration chamber, where they lose their energy and drop into a collection area for recycling. The patented wet Snail® trap uses a mixture of biodegradable oil and water to encapsulate any lead particles that may be generated before they become airborne and inhaled by range users. This system is in use at practically every firearms and ammunition manufacturer, where range personnel must routinely have their blood lead levels tested in accordance with OSHA requirements.

The wet Snail® trap produces a cleaner, healthier range by eliminating the lead particles at the trap without expensive vacuum systems, extending the interval between filter changes in the HVAC system. When used properly, there have been no reported cases of elevated blood lead levels where a wet Snail® trap is installed.

SRS has built commercial ranges throughout the USA. Additionally, major SRS installations can be found worldwide, including all branches of the armed forces, and multiple government and law enforcement agencies.

“Why smash a bullet when you can decelerate it and minimize pollutants?”

In 1991, this simple question was asked and answered by Ron Coburn, inventer, Chairman & CEO of Savage Sports Corporation. “We, like most firearm firms, were using a smash plate system in our range. In thinking how to solve the lead pollution problem, I realized it made more sense to slowly decelerate the bullet as there will be less damage to both the bullet and the range.” Mr. Coburn’s idea, named the ‘Snail’ because of its unique, patented circular Deceleration Chamber, has revolutionized shooting range design and been credited with protecting shooters, employees and the environment worldwide. Work smarter, let the bullet decelerate itself! The patented Snail Trap lets the bullet travel unimpeded inside the Deceleration Chamber until it loses energy and falls into the recovery system. Snail Oil is sprayed into the Deceleration Chamber and captures any lead particles, keeping them out of the air and out of you!

Revolutionary Patented Technology

Our patented wet Snail Trap has been used by all major firearms and ammunition manufacturers – and demanding law enforcement agencies for over 10 years. Why? Quite simply, it works! Have you ever walked into a range where the air smelled like lead or there was excessive lead dust at the trap? You won’t find this in a range with a wet Snail Trap. The Snail Trap’s roots are in the firearms manufacturing environment, where range personnel must routinely have their blood lead levels tested in accordance with OSHA requirements. When used properly, there have been no reported cases of elevated blood lead levels where a wet Snail Trap was installed. As a sister company of Savage Arms, we understand the importance of having a low maintenance system – maintenance downtime equals reduced revenue. Our system has one of the lowest maintenance requirements for any bullet trap on the market. Not only does this result in lower operating costs, it maximizes ‘range availability’ for training and revenue generation.

The wet Snail Trap is the trap for indoor applications

The wet Snail Trap produces a cleaner, healthier range by eliminating the lead particles at the trap without expensive vacuum systems, extending the interval between filter changes on your HVAC system. The basic systems can be modified to meet your specific requirements. All Snail Traps include our patented circular Deceleration Chamber and low angle ramps. All the systems are available with an Automatic Bullet Recovery System that provides a truly hands-free operation.

The patented wet Snail® System, with low angle ramps and circular Deceleration Chamber, results in virtually no airborne lead at the trap. Unlike other steel traps on the market, Snail Traps have low angle ramps (12° for rifle and 15° for pistol) which deflect the bullet into a circular Deceleration Chamber. In the wet Snail Trap, a mixture of biodegradable oil and water encapsulates any lead particles that may be generated before they become airborne and inhaled by the range users. This results in a safer and cleaner environment for the shooter. The Snail® System can be safely fired into with rifles and handguns at ‘point blank’ range without creating a ricochet hazard. Cross range firing can also be safely undertaken. Savage Range Systems has developed a proven collection system for continuously mining the trap with its Automatic Bullet Recovery System, where spent rounds are deposited in a convenient container for easy recycling without impacting range availability.

Airborne Dust Containment for the Savage Range Systems Dry Snail Trap Savage Range Systems has designed the ultimate in contaminant collection for indoor dry traps – the patented Savage Air Barrier System. Using “positive pressure” the contaminant collection system creates a barrier at the throat of the Deceleration Chamber, keeping lead particles where they belong, inside the Deceleration Chamber!
